2008 NGWA Ground Water Expo

Photo Safari to Valley of Fire State Park, Tuesday, December 2, 12-6 p.m.

(Tour departs from the entrance to the NGWA Ground Water Expo at the Las Vegas Convention Center and returns to the Las Vegas Hilton.)

Photo of valley by David Wright.David Wright, last year's instructor of "Five Easy Steps to Creating Great Photographs," will lead this photo safari to one of the most unique parks in the country, Valley of Fire State Park.

Using this highly unusual setting of thousands of tiny arches and caves in rising boulders of petrified sand dunes, you will have a great opportunity to practice all you've learned on lighting, composition, exposure, storytelling, and cropping.

The afternoon tour will allow you to explore the park and capture its beauty with Wright there to guide, coach, and assist you with your photography exposure and composition challenges. Plus, you will examine how to set up and photograph portraits with available light.

Photo of petroglyphs by David Wright. An added bonus is that this park is home to one of the largest finds of prehistoric Indian petroglyphs and petrified logs from an ancient forest of 225 million years ago.

Lunch will be provided.

Create Shadow Box Memories, Thursday, 2-4 p.m.

A shadow box frame is a great way to preserve special photos and display treasured objects. It's a project that may require some preparation, but is simple and fun once you get started. Using photos from the Photo Safari to Valley of Fire State Park and other items from around the Expo, you can create a work of art to remind you of your wonderful time at this year's 60th anniversary Expo in Las Vegas. This custom workshop has been created, and will be taught, by the JulieJane Paper Co.

Registration must be made on or before October 1 to be guaranteed a seat and materials. The cost is $40.
