Beverly L. Herzog, CGWP, retired, Illinois State Geological Survey, Bellflower, Illinois, is the recipient of this year's Robert Storm Award. This award is presented to a person or team who through their activities or written works, contribute to promoting collaboration, enhancing cooperation, and fostering community among all groundwater professionals and to advancing the mutual interests of all those interested in communicating the importance of the Earth's water resources.
The Life Member Award is presented to retired NGWA members or members of retirement age who have contributed a special service in the furtherance of the groundwater industry or to NGWA. The following will receive 2011 Life Member Awards:
Senator Herb Kohl (D-Wisconsin) received the 2011 Groundwater Protector Award, which recognizes outstanding public service in conjunction with groundwater conservation, protection, and use.
David M. Kelly, CWD/PI, Jones Well Drilling Inc., Jarrettsville, Maryland, will receive the 2011 Standard Bearer Award. This award is presented to outstanding volunteers involved in the legislative process on behalf of NGWA and its initiatives.
Daniel B. Stephens & Associates Inc. will receive the Groundwater Supply Award for its Potter Well Field Development Project. This award recognizes outstanding science, engineering, and/or contractor innovation in the area of supplying groundwater.
Water Replenishment District of Southern California will receive the Groundwater Protection Award for its Groundwater Monitoring Project. This award demonstrates a unique and innovative solution in protecting groundwater from overdraft and contamination.
AMEC will receive the Groundwater Remediation Award for its Continuous In Situ Permeable Treatment Wall for Strontium-90 Project. This award demonstrates excellence in restoring contaminated groundwater or overdrafted groundwater resources.
Jui Jimmy Jiao, Ph.D., University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, will receive the 2011 John Hem Excellence in Science & Engineering Award. This award is presented by the Scientists and Engineers Division of NGWA in recognition of significant, recent (within five years) scientific or engineering contributions to the understanding of groundwater. The award is presented annually for significant contributions from either a single publication or a body of works.
Paul C. Johnson, Ph.D., Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona, will receive the 2011 Keith E. Anderson Award. This award is presented by the Scientists and Engineers Membership Division of NGWA in recognition of outstanding contributions to the Association.
Robert J. Stone, Franklin Electric, Bluffton, Indiana, will receive the 2011 Manufacturers Division Special Recognition Award. This award is given annually by the Manufacturers Division to honor an individual's accomplishments in the groundwater manufacturing industry including, but not limited to, industry improvements, special education contributions, and patents and technology.
