Conference overview

Share your knowledge and gain insight from fellow groundwater professionals, those involved in food and beverage production, and government officials and policymakers at this two-day conference that explores potential solutions to the question:

  • How will we use new and existing tools and technology to plan, manage, protect, and allocate increasingly stressed groundwater resources to provide adequate food and drinking water supplies to nourish more than seven billion people as we move through the 21st century?

Potential topic areas to be explored include, but are not limited to, agricultural wells, aquaculture, biofuels, CAFOs, climate change, drought mitigation, emerging contaminants, groundwater sustainability, and pesticides. A current call is underway seeking abstracts in these areas and others. Click on the “Call for abstracts” tab above for more information and to submit your abstract today.

 Call for abstracts

 

Abstracts for the NGWA Conference on Groundwater and Food Production must be submitted online and are due by 11:59 p.m. ET on June 22, 2013. Abstracts on any aspect related to groundwater, and food and beverage production, including, but not limited to, the following are being sought:

  • Agricultural and energy production/biofuels
  • Agricultural wells: Construction and maintenance
  • Aquaculture
  • Confined animal feeding operations
  • Groundwater in drought mitigation, coordination, and communication 
  • Groundwater management, policy, and regulation
  • Groundwater sustainability
  • Groundwater withdrawals: Food and beverage production
  • Impacts of current and pending regulations
  • Impact of emerging contaminants
  • New challenges and tools
  • Pesticides and agricultural runoff
  • Planning for climate change
  • Salinity and nitrate
  • Soil and groundwater conservation/utilization
  • Water quality, quantity, and crop yields
  • Water reuse and recycling in dairy and bottling operations.

Abstracts must be submitted in sentence form and without bullet points. Word limits are 15 or less for titles and 300 or less for abstracts. Click here for further details and to submit your abstract now.

Accommodations: NGWA has secured a limited block of rooms on a first come, first served basis at the group rate of $109 per night single/double occupancy for October 9 and 10, and $159 single/double occupancy for October 11. These rates apply to the NGWA room block and are valid until the September 9 cutoff, unless our block has been filled before that date.
