(WESTERVILLE, OH — September 29, 2011) Paul C. Johnson, Ph.D., of Arizona State University has received the 2011 Keith E. Anderson Award from the National Ground Water Association.
This award is presented for outstanding contributions to NGWA’s Scientists and Engineers Division. The award will be presented December 1 at the 2011 NGWA Ground Water Expo and Annual Meeting in Las Vegas.
Since 2003, Johnson has been editor-in-chief of NGWA’s journal, Groundwater Monitoring & Remediation®. He also is a professor in ASU’s School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment, and dean of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering.
“As editor in chief of GWMR, Johnson has been a leader in maintaining and enhancing one of the flagship journals of the groundwater community,” wrote nominator Charles Newell of GSI Environmental Inc. in Houston, Texas.
“In his eight years of service, Johnson has guided the publication and provided strong leadership in making it one of the go-to journals for the groundwater community,” Newell wrote. “Paul has been committed to constantly improving GWMR, such as introducing new article options in 2007 and providing new methods to print papers that warrant rapid publication.”
Previously, Johnson received NGWA’s 2001 Outstanding Ground Water Remediation Project Award. He also was recognized for the best paper at a 1994 NGWA/American Petroleum Institute conference.
