(WESTERVILLE, OH — September 27, 2012) Dr. Jose Joel Carrillo Rivera of Mexico University has received a Life Member Award from the National Ground Water Association for special service in the furtherance of the groundwater industry and NGWA.
The award will be presented in December at the NGWA Groundwater Expo and Annual Meeting in Las Vegas.
A 44-year veteran of the groundwater industry, Rivera currently is a researcher at Mexico University in the Institute of Geography. During his career, he has worked in Argentina, Australia, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, and Morocco.
Rivera’s main interest is underground flow systems and their functioning and relationship to other components in the environment. His current research focuses on defining solutions to social, economic, and environmental issues related to groundwater.
He has authored or coauthored 50 articles in international journals and 24 books or book chapters. Rivera has presented lectures more than 120 times around the world.
Rivera has been involved extensively with organizations including NGWA and the International Association of Hydrogeologists, holding the distinction of being the first elected president of the IAH-Mexican Chapter. He also is an external expert for the International Atomic Energy Agency and the European Commission, and he serves as an adviser to the 15th Mexican Congress.
