(WESTERVILLE, OH — September 27, 2012) Tom Downey, CWD/PI, president and chief executive officer of Downey Drilling Inc., and former president of the National Ground Water Association, has received NGWA’s top award — the Ross L. Oliver Award for outstanding contributions to the groundwater industry.
The award will be presented at the 2012 NGWA Groundwater Expo and Annual Meeting taking place this December in Las Vegas.
Among Downey’s groundwater industry contributions and recognitions are:
It was during Downey’s tenure as NGWA’s president that the Association established the Robert Storm Interdivisional Cooperation Award — a reflection of Downey’s commitment to fostering unity among all groundwater professionals to benefit the public and groundwater.
When he was old enough to work, Downey started with his family’s stock well business as well as Charles Sargent Irrigation in Broken Bow, Nebraska, where he remained until 2005, when he and his brother, Dave, started Downey Well Drilling Inc.
“Tom Downey is the embodiment of the true groundwater professional — setting a major example to his professional colleagues and consumers of the good works of this industry,” said Downey’s nominator, Lee Orton, executive director, Nebraska Well Drillers Association.
“He and his company always step forward to demonstrate groundwater work during continuing education endeavors and Tom is always a willing spokesperson for the industry in business, community, and government forums,” Orton said. “He is indeed an example for others to emulate.”
