The editor-in-chief normally solicits up to three independent peer reviews of each research paper submitted to
Ground Water
. This process averages three months. If the manuscript is inappropriate for this journal, or is not ready for peer review, you will be notified within one to two weeks.
You will be notified via e-mail when the editor-in-chief has completed the initial assessment of your paper and you will be notified again by e-mail when a decision is made about your paper. If the paper receives favorable reviews, you will be asked to prepare a response to the reviewers' comments and a revised manuscript. Your response to reviewers and the revised manuscript must be uploaded within 60 days after you receive the decision letter from the editor-in-chief.
Revised manuscripts are usually reviewed by one of the journal's associate editors, who typically is also one of the three initial reviewers. The re-review process usually takes about one month, but can take longer. After review, you will be notified via e-mail of the editor-in-chief's decision. If the editor-in-chief or the associate editor still has concerns about the paper, the paper will either be declined or you will be asked to prepare another revision.
If the paper is accepted for publication, you are required to submit the following items for final manuscript processing:
The final manuscript in Microsoft Word format.
High-resolution figures (at least 300 dpi). They can be in TIF, EPS, or PDF format (TIF is preferred). We cannot accept JPGs.
Your signed copyright transfer form (exclusive license form).
Your signed page charge form.
Your signed color charge form if you are publishing color figures.
Copyediting and preparation of page proofs takes approximately 12 weeks. You will be e-mailed page proofs prior to publication. Your paper will be published online prior to print publication. Online publication is the publication of record. No changes can be made once the paper appears online.
This is a general outline of the review process; timelines and procedures can vary from manuscript to manuscript depending on special circumstances. The entire process from submission to publication averages about a year.
Authors can check the status of their manuscripts at any time via our online manuscript submission system.
