These are the traditional Ground Water & Remediation® technical articles that have been published for more than 25 years—peer-reviewed articles that describe data collection and analysis, new technology, and new model development that lead to advances in the groundwater monitoring, management, and remediation fields. Authors submit manuscripts with a cover letter to the editor describing the content of the article and its significance. The editor will then decide whether or not to accept the submission and place it into the peer-review process. The target length for these manuscripts is about 16 double-spaced pages of text, plus up to eight figures and a 200-word abstract. Note that there are page charges for published lengths exceeding six pages and color charges for papers that use color figurers. These are short technical communications that contain focused analyses of new data or data published in other peer-reviewed articles, brief descriptions of innovative sampling and analysis methods, or presentation and discussion of quantitative mathematical tools (i.e., models, equations). Technical notes undergo peer review and are expected to meet the same overall criteria (originality, significance, etc.). They generally are composed of an introduction, presentation of the primary content, a discussion of its significance, and fewer than 10 references. The total length of a technical note, including figures and tables, is about 10 double-spaced pages. These are typically published within one to two journal editions of submission. These are technical articles that describe fast-breaking developments that warrant rapid communication to the groundwater, community.  Authors must include a cover letter justifying why the article merits rapid publication. The editor will determine if the article is appropriate for rapid communication and will obtain an expedited review, ideally within three weeks. The author must be committed to rapid revision of the article following review and at page proofs, and be available for discussion with the editor via e-mail. If accepted, the article will be published online in Blackwell Synergy's Online Early section of the journal's home page within four weeks and will appear in print in the next issue of the journal. A rapid communication is no more than four published pages (950 words per page*) including no more than four figures and/or tables. The abstract must be no more than 100 words. These are technical articles that describe experiences with the implementation of new technology, innovative approaches to challenges in the soil and groundwater monitoring, management, and remediation fields, or data that would be useful to practitioners (i.e., cost information, technology limitations, occurrence of emerging contaminants). Prior to submission, authors should send a letter of intent to the editor-in-chief describing the content of the article, its broader applicability, and a justification why the article is especially of interest to practitioners. The editor-in-chief will then decide whether to invite submission of the manuscript, which will undergo peer-review. The target length for practical applications manuscripts is 10 double-spaced pages (plan on 950 words per page*) of text plus up to six figures and a 200-word abstract. A guest editorial expresses an opinion about a topic of interest to the readership at large; it should be thought-provoking and informative. Although based on opinion, the editorial should not be used to advocate one's own research ideas or products. Editorials are limited to one published page (approximately 700-750 words*) and are reviewed by the editor-in-chief, who may seek additional reviews prior to acceptance. Guest editorials should be sent directly to the editor-in-chief.
