NGWA Washington Fly-in (#5090)

Page Content

February 27-28 • Washington, D.C.

What is a legislative fly-in?

NGWA's 15th Annual Groundwater Industry Legislative Conference, also known simply as the NGWA Washington Fly-in, puts groundwater professionals in touch with the men and women who set the nation's groundwater policy.

The first day of the conference is spent in briefings on current legislative topics, learning tips for conducting successful Hill meetings (get started with this video), and reviewing "leave behind" materials to share with congressional offices. On the second day, conference participants spend time visiting their representatives' offices — NGWA sets up these meetings for you — to educate policymakers about groundwater and issues important to the businesses of groundwater professionals.

The one missing piece is you...bring your knowledge of groundwater and your business to Washington and join us in our efforts to educate Congress about both the resource and the industry.

Why should you attend?

Groups who are the most effective in Washington, D.C., are those who vote and spend time talking to their representatives about their industry and the role public policy can play, according to Forbes Magazine.

The key issues to be addressed

The focus of the 2012 NGWA Washington Fly-in will be on:
  1. Educating congressional members about groundwater and NGWA members’ businesses
  2. Garnering support for properly installed geothermal heat pump systems as a tool to reduce energy consumption and corresponding emissions while creating jobs
  3. Highlighting NGWA members’ efforts to provide drinking water through properly constructed and maintained water well systems
  4. Securing funding for the National Ground Water Monitoring Network to provide the necessary data to help optimize groundwater resources through informed decision-making.
