Geothermal Energy Interest Group
The Geothermal Energy Interest Group recognizes the use of subsurface heat storage and recovery to ensure maximum efficiencies in energy use. Through the use of a ground water source heat pump, ground water can be used as both an energy source (yielding heat) and an energy sink (carrying heat away).

Mission

The Geothermal Energy Interest Group consists of NGWA members actively involved in the ground source (or geothermal) heat pump industry including drilling contractors, equipment/materials suppliers, and engineers.

The geothermal heat pump (GHP) industry is growing rapidly and sustaining this growth requires an ever-increasing number of contractors. Our goal is to identify the information and training needs of NGWA members in the area of GHP systems and to meet those needs using all of the organization’s resources including the Web site, Ground Water Expo, journals, online discussion forum, and workshop opportunities.

This NGWA interest group welcomes your input, ideas, and questions.

Goals

  • Develop a package of information on the fundamentals of GHP systems and place this on the NGWA Web site
  • Coordinate sessions at the annual NGWA Ground Water Expo and other events to allow experienced GHP professionals to share information with NGWA members interested in the technology
  • Explore the GHP training needs of NGWA members
  • Address questions posed by NGWA members on GHP technology through the online discussion forum.
