Microbial Ground Water Quality Interest Group

Mission

The mission of the NGWA Microbial Ground Water Quality Interest Group is to provide NGWA members the forum to discuss technical issues concerning all aspects of microbiological water quality and to formulate science-based strategies to ensure the availability of high quality potable ground water.

Objectives

  • Identify and provide access to data and information on microbial ground water quality including refereed and nonrefereed research papers and journal articles, and health department and/or government reports
  • Develop a list of required research to further the mission of this interest group
  • Review published works in order to identify emerging technical concepts or inadequacies
  • Write white papers on important technical issues
  • Prepare public information papers which can be useful to the public to better understand the science of microbiology as applied to drinking water and/or improve methods to protect ground water and drinking water from microbial contamination
  • Make the general membership of NGWA aware of the complexity of maintaining good quality ground water
  • Aid public health departments in the regulatory control of potable ground water through better understanding of the science involved
  • Provide a source of unbiased information—fully reviewed and summarized—for use by legislative endeavors in the pursuit of good quality ground water
  • Provide articles or written work that can be used by members to aid them in their contact with clients and or customers
  • Lead the ground water industry toward the best available technologies that will lead to the safest potable ground water for the public and to ensure the continuance of our ground water resources.
