Note:
There is no state agency that regulates or permits private water wells in Alaska. This would occur at the local level. Currently, the Municipality of Anchorage and the City of North Pole are the only known local governments that have local permitting requirements.

The DEC Drinking Water Program has a web page that provides resources on constructing and decommissioning private drinking water wells in Alaska.

There is no specific statewide license for water well drillers. Only a State of Alaska General Contractors license is required to construct a water well outside of the Municipality of Anchorage. Some contractors may have special endorsements for water well, but it is not required to drill water wells. You can search for licenses here.

In the Municipality of Anchorage, water well drillers must be certified by the Municipality of Anchorage.

The State of Alaska DEC  Drinking Water Program recommends contacting NGWA when selecting a contractor to drill or decommission a water well.
