Renowned hydrogeologist to present a series of lectures throughout 2025 

(Westerville, OH- May 13, 2024) – Dr. Grant Ferguson has been selected as the 2025 Darcy Distinguished Lecturer by the National Ground Water Association and Groundwater Foundation. Ferguson is currently the Centennial Enhancement Chair,  Professor at University of Saskatchewan and Adjunct Professor at the University of Arizona.   

Ferguson earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Manitoba and and a B.Sc. in Geology from University of Waterloo.  

Established in 1986, the Henry Darcy Distinguished Lecture Series in Groundwater Science fosters interest and excellence in groundwater science and technology throughout the groundwater industry. 

In his role as Darcy Distinguished Lecturer, Ferguson will be traveling throughout 2025 presenting his lecture at universities and groundwater industry events across the country and abroad. 

Ferguson, who specializes in deep groundwater systems and connections to energy resources, will be presenting two lectures throughout the year: “Deep Groundwater and Deep Time” and “Living Fossils: Ancient Groundwaters in the Anthropocene.” 

"I'm really looking forward to catching up with old friends, meeting some new ones, and discussing new ideas during the 2025 Darcy Lecture Tour. There are many big and unresolved questions in groundwater research and working together will be key to making progress on these challenges," said Ferguson.  "Groundwater remains one of our most important resources and I’m honored by this opportunity to help lead the discussion into new and interesting territory.” 

The Darcy Distinguished Lecture is named for Henry Darcy of France for his 1856 investigations that established the physical principle upon which modern groundwater hydrogeology is based. Additional financing for the award is provided by the environmental consulting firms S.S. Papadopulos & Associates, Inc., and Woodard & Curran.
