Award to Honor Mr. Smith’s 40 Years of Contributions to the Groundwater Industry
(WESTERVILLE, OH — September 25, 2019) Albert “Al” Smith, Supervisor of Well Screen Customer Service with Johnson Screens in New Bright, Minnesota, will receive the Life Member Award from the National Ground Water Association (NGWA).
The award, which will be presented to Mr. Smith at NGWA’s Groundwater Week in Las Vegas, is a recognition of his significant contributions to the groundwater industry throughout his 42-year career.
An expert in screened water well design, construction and maintenance, Smith’s colleagues refer to him as an indispensable source of information and guidance. He has published various papers focusing on filter pack selection, screen optimization, and well rehabilitation, and has led professional well drilling seminars across the country.
Smith obtained a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Minnesota after which he spent two years volunteering with Christian Service Corps in Ethiopia. Smith is an active member of the National Ground Water Association, and has previously served on the Association’s Well Development Task Group. In addition, Smith has served on the Minnesota Ground Water Association Foundation Board and is a member of the American Society of Agriculture Engineers.
When not serving the groundwater industry Smith enjoys volunteering with his local church, traveling to national parks, and spending time with his 3 children and 13 grandchildren.
