Award to Honor Mr. Hitchon’s Design Contributions to the Groundwater Industry

(WESTERVILLE, OH — October 7, 2019) Stewart Hitchon, President of Hitchon Pumps in Ontario, Canada will receive the Equipment Design Award from the National Ground Water Association.

The award, which will be presented to Hitchon at NGWA’s Groundwater Week in Las Vegas, is presented to individuals for excellence in the design of equipment products that promote safety as well as efficiency in water well drilling.

Hitchon began working with water pumps at the age of twelve and in 1975 started his own company, Hitchon Pumps, at the age of nineteen. He would go on to spend his entire career working in the water well water industry installing, maintaining, and manufacturing water pumps across the world.

In 2001, Hitchon patented what would go on to be one his most used and successful inventions: the Flowing Well Packer® or better known as The Well Buster®. Hitchon’s well packer was designed to control flowing water wells below the frost line which would prevent the freezing and wasting of millions of gallons of groundwater. The Well Buster is one of the only tools to efficiently control flowing wells and has sold thousands of units across the United States and Canada.

“This product has revolutionized flowing wells control procedures. In British Columbia it is law to control flowing wells. It is now made easy with the well packers”, says nomination supporter Lloyd Ingram, President, Ingram Well and Pump. Hitchon is an active member of the National Ground Water Association and the Ontario Ground Water Association. When not serving the groundwater industry Hitchon enjoys spending time with his wife and sponsoring local sports teams.
