Conference will focus on the transportation of PFAS from contaminated sites in groundwater.
(WESTERVILLE, OH — June 15, 2021) The National Ground Water Association (NGWA) will be holding its Fate of PFAS: From Groundwater to Tap Water Conference virtually June 22-23.
The conference will focus on the fate and transport of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from contaminated sites through groundwater, surface water, and other environmental media, to drinking water and agricultural systems.
The chemistry and environmental behavior of PFAS, as well as regulatory evolution of the substances, create significant challenges for project planning, risk communication, and programmatic management. The conference aims to address hydrologic and environmental issues as well as provide updates on regulations and toxicological studies and their effect on groundwater clean-up standards.
The keynote address, “How Little Is Still too Much: Limits for PFAS Drinking Water,” will be presented by Philippe Grandjean, Ph.D., who is a current adjunct professor in the Department of Environmental Health at Harvard University.
NGWA has long been an industry leader in providing PFAS research, education, and resources to the public and scientific communities. In 2017, NGWA published Groundwater and PFAS: State of Knowledge and Practice, which was one of the first PFAS guidance documents to be released, and continues to operate the Groundwater and PFAS resource center.
If you are interested in attending the conference or would like to arrange an interview with a presenter, please contact Ben Frech at bfrech@ngwa.org or (614) 898-7791, ext. 1570.
