NGWA Announces Chancey Chambers Earns Master Groundwater Contractor Designation The fourth-generation water well professional has more than 20 years of well drilling experience  

WESTERVILLE, Ohio, July 13, 2026 — Chancey Chambers of Twentynine Palms, California, achieved his 2027 goal early as he is the most recent groundwater professional to earn the National Ground Water Association’s top designation, Master Groundwater Contractor (MGWC).

The fourth-generation water well professional and owner of Chambers Choice Drilling will be recognized for earning the MGWC designation at Groundwater Week 2026, which is co-locating with the Irrigation Association and taking place December 8–10 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Obtaining MGWC certification is an important milestone in my personal growth as a groundwater professional,” said the 42-year-old. “To me, the MGWC title is a symbol of industry knowledge and professionalism that is hard-earned and very fulfilling.”

Licensed in five states to drill, Chambers has more than 20 years of well drilling experience and specializes in commercial and municipal projects but is more than proficient in domestic and agricultural drilling. From 2020 to the present, Chambers has worked to become a leading designer, driller, and consultant for the federal government in the West. He does frequent work for Death Valley National Park and the Lake Meade National Recreation Area.

Passionate about growing his knowledge in the drilling industry, Chambers is willing to travel anywhere to learn. He flew to Ohio in 2023 to watch the Ohio Water Well Association present techniques on flowing well artesian drilling.

“Every region is different, so it is good to get perspectives,” Chambers said. “Working with the federal government, I move to a lot of regions I’ve never drilled in, and the local drillers have earned their knowledge in the region through hands-on experience. I don’t always have that luxury so it’s important to have a large mental toolbox to pull from.”

Chambers also volunteers for public service in water-related fields. He served on the Board of Directors at the Twentynine Palms Water District for five years and served on the Groundwater Committee for the Association of California Water Agencies for two years as well as a voting member of the ACWA Joint Powers Insurance Authority for three years. He’s currently on the board of the Dale Basin Well Owners Association and holds three free presentations on well design and maintenance each year.

In addition, Chambers is a Grade 2 water treatment and distribution operator in California and a licensed electrical contractor in Arizona and California, specializing in electric well motors. He holds a business management degree with a minor in public administration that has helped him work with government agencies and conduct his well business.

The MGWC designation recognizes contractors who demonstrate exceptional knowledge and commitment to water well construction and pump installation. Candidates must have a minimum of five years of active industry experience, hold all current NGWA certifications, and pass a comprehensive four-hour examination covering a broad range of technical competencies.
