Groundwater Special Issue on Managed Aquifer Recharge

Submit Your Work for a Groundwater Special Issue on Managed Aquifer Recharge

Groundwater® has issued a call for papers for a special issue on managed aquifer recharge.

Water supply shortages are occurring now and are expected to occur more widely in the future. Managed aquifer recharge (MAR) has become an increasingly important tool for mitigating the economic, environmental, and public health impacts of these shortages. MAR captures available water (during wet periods, during periods of low demand, or water that would be lost otherwise) and moves this water under controlled conditions into aquifer reservoirs.

The aim of this special issue is to inform the groundwater community about existing long-term projects, lessons learned, and current and emerging tools and approaches that can be used to develop successful recharge projects. The special issue will include the following topics:

  • Successful MAR project descriptions (case studies)
  • Strategies for developing successful MAR projects
  • MAR feasibility, economics, and decision-making
  • Water-quality issues
  • MAR policy and legal challenges
  • FloodMAR and AgMAR
  • MAR best management best practices (e.g., planning, design, construction, operations, public outreach and communications, adaptive management).
