GWMR’s Impact Factor its highest in nearly 20 years

June 26, 2018

The 2017 impact factors for technical journals were released by Thomas Reuters on June 26, and NGWA’s scientific journal Groundwater Monitoring & Remediation® saw its number increase to its highest total in nearly 20 years.

GWMR had an IF of 1.648, its best since 1999, when the IF was 1.722. However, calculations were done differently at that time and scores tended to be higher. GWMR’s IF in 2017 ranks 51st among the 90 water resource journals. A year ago, it had an IF of 1.55, and just two years ago its score was 0.848.

Groundwater®’s IF for 2017 is 1.90, a slight decrease from last year when it had a score of 2.067. Still the journal has had a score of 1.90 or better for six consecutive years. Groundwater®’s 2017 IF ranks the journal 41st among the 90 water resources publications and 97th among all 189 journals in the geosciences.

The IF of an academic journal is a measure reflecting the yearly average number of citations to recent articles published in that journal. It is frequently used as a proxy for the relative importance of a journal within its field.
