EPA sends PFAS determination to White House

December 9, 2019

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency sent the proposed regulatory determination for perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) in drinking water to the Office of Management and Budget for interagency review on December 3. This is another step in the process to regulate per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in drinking water.

The action will provide proposed determinations for at least five contaminants listed on the Contaminant Candidate List 4 — or CCL 4 — including PFOA and PFOS (the two most studied of the thousands of PFAS), in compliance with Safe Drinking Water Act requirements.
