The Pentagon has redirected $66.6 million from existing Air Force environmental remediation efforts to be used for groundwater clean-up efforts relating to contamination from per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
While other branches of the military had sufficient funds in existing accounts, the Air Force had to take funds from 26 existing remediation projects and will use the money to investigate 16 sites with suspected contamination, as well as on mitigation projects at former military sites in California, New Hampshire, and Michigan.
A list of the projects that will be receiving funds for PFAS-related clean-up efforts can be found here.
