Groundwater impact factor rises to highest score ever

June 21, 2019

GroundwaterThe 2018 impact factors for technical journals were released by Thomas Reuters on June 20, and NGWA’s scientific journal Groundwater® saw its number climb to its highest ever, 2.322.

The score is just higher than the journal’s previous best of 2.307 in 2014. It is the third time the IF has been above 2.00 and marks the seventh consecutive year it’s been above 1.90.

The impact factor for Groundwater Monitoring & Remediation® saw its number decrease to 1.192, but its score of 1.648 last year was its best since 1999, when the IF was 1.722. However, calculations were done differently at that time and scores tended to be higher.

The IF of an academic journal is a measure reflecting the yearly average number of citations to recent articles published in that journal. It is frequently used as a proxy for the relative importance of a journal within its field.
