Past NGWA Board member inducted into National Academy of Engineering

Daniel StephensDaniel B. Stephens, Ph.D., PG, PHg, founder and principal hydrologist of Albuquerque-based consulting company Daniel B. Stephens & Associates Inc., has been inducted as a member of the National Academy of Engineering — considered among the highest professional distinctions.

Recognized internationally for his innovations in vadose zone and groundwater hydrology, Stephens’ work has contributed substantially to scientists’ understanding of the vadose zone and its role in replenishing and protecting aquifers.

In 2016, Stephens received the Keith E. Anderson Award for outstanding contributions to NGWA, including serving on the NGWA Board of Directors, Scientists and Engineers Section Board of Directors, Membership Standing Committee, Policy and Code of Regulations Standing Committee, and Scientists and Engineers International Committee. He also has led several NGWA short courses and given more than 20 presentations at NGWA events. Stephens has authored or coauthored 10 papers for NGWA’s two peer-reviewed journals, Groundwater® and Groundwater Monitoring & Remediation®.

Stephens founded DBS&A in 1984 and the firm has grown to a $17 million corporation with seven offices in New Mexico, California, Colorado, and Texas. In 2015, DBS&A became a wholly owned subsidiary of Geo-Logic Associates with a combined 28 offices and more than 250 employees offering multidisciplinary geologic, engineering, water, and environmental consulting to provide solutions to challenges for landfills, mines, contaminated sites, municipal projects, natural resources, and water resources.
