The U.S. Department of Agriculture has published new guidance that allows for the installation of water treatment devices in the agency’s Household Water Well System Grant Program beginning in 2021.
Households impacted by contaminated groundwater that require water treatment devices to supply homes with a potable source are now eligible for a grant through this program — with or without the installation of a new water well system.
The possible benefits are sizable. Water treatment devices can treat naturally occurring groundwater contaminants (arsenic and radon for example) and those from local land-use practices (pesticides, chemicals, animal feeding operations), malfunctioning wastewater treatment systems, emerging contaminants such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), and other sources.
