The Groundwater Foundation’s first McEllhiney Lecturer passes away

Hans-Olaf PfannkuchHans-Olaf Pfannkuch, Ph.D., passed away on November 19. He was 87.

A professor at the University of Minnesota for 42 years, he was also The Groundwater Foundation’s first McEllhiney Lecturer, traveling the country and giving the presentation “Pump Tests for Practical People” in 2001.

His research interest focused on the field of hydrogeology and concentrated on groundwater/surface interactions, hydrocarbon contamination in shallow aquifer systems, and transport and mass transfer processes in porous media.

He was awarded the NGWA Life Member Award in 2009.
