Snelten-1-27-newsNGWA President Brian Snelten, PG, appeared on Illinois Farm Radio on January 27 to promote annual inspections and treatment of private water wells.

Speaking with Illinois Farm Radio host Jared White, Snelten, an area manager for Layne Christensen, a Granite Company, in Aurora, Illinois, discussed various ways homeowners can maintain their private wells and the importance of using certified water well contractors to inspect and work on well systems.

Throughout the interview, Snelten also promoted NGWA’s website for homeowners with well systems, WellOwner.org, as a resource for homeowners to find more information about their well and certified water well contractors in their area.

“It’s good to build a relationship with your water well contractor, and if you don’t know who yours is you would check WellOwner.org and find a certified contractor in your area,” Snelten said. “They will get to know who you are, and they’re always willing to help you out with good ideas on maintenance and testing.”

NGWA operates WellOwner.org with support from the Rural Community Assistance Partnership and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Snelten also discussed other NGWA Board of Directors priorities such as emerging contaminants, droughts, and the impact of flooding on water wells.

“Any day we get to talk about groundwater is a good day for us,” Snelten added.
