EPA to host virtual public meetings on approaches to PFAS

April 11, 2022

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Science Advisory Board (SAB) has announced its per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) Review Panel will host two virtual public meetings to discuss the EPA's proposed approaches to PFAS.

The meetings will cover:

  • A draft maximum contaminant level goal for perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) in drinking water
  • The EPA’s proposed approaches to the derivation of a draft maximum contaminant level goal for perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) in drinking water
  • The EPA’s analysis of cardiovascular disease risk reduction because of reduced PFOA and PFOS exposure in drinking water
  • The EPA’s draft framework for estimating noncancer health risks associated with mixtures of PFAS.

The virtual public meetings will be held from 12-5 p.m. ET on May 3 and from 1-5 p.m. ET on May 6.

More information about the meetings, including how to access them, is on the SAB website.

NGWA has long been an industry leader in providing PFAS research, education, and resources to the public and scientific communities. In 2017, NGWA published Groundwater and PFAS: State of Knowledge and Practice, which was one of the first PFAS guidance documents to be released. It can be found at NGWA.org/PFAS, which is a complete resource center about the groundwater contaminants featuring a FAQs document, a top-10 facts sheet, a homeowner checklist, and more.

NGWA is also once again hosting a conference on this topic, Fate of PFAS: From Groundwater to Tap Water, June 21-22, 2022 in Westerville, Ohio.
