GAO report identifies challenges with PFAS assessment, detection, and treatment technologies

August 4, 2022

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) published a technology assessment on July 28 that identified three challenges associated with PFAS assessment, detection, and treatment technologies.

From its technology assessment, the GAO recommended three policy changes:

  • Promote research
  • Expand access to analytical samples for easier detection of PFAS not just in water
  • Support PFAS treatment and destruction technologies.

The GAO technology assessment discusses technologies to detect and treat PFAS contamination and assess its health effects as well as offers policymakers additional actions to consider. Click here to read the report.
