NGWA, along with countries and organizations from around the world, will be celebrating World Water Day on March 22. This World Water Day is about accelerating change to solve the water and sanitation crisis.
Seeing the need to recharge water to aquifers, NGWA has long been involved in managed aquifer recharge (MAR) advocacy and research, including forming a permanent MAR working group and lobbying for increased federal funding for MAR projects across the country. The practice, while not new, has seen an increase in popularity in recent years, and is expected to increase MAR applications further as much of the world struggles to maintain sufficient water levels during this new normal of prolonged droughts and related aquifer depletion.
NGWA is hosting a conference on the topic, Managed Aquifer Recharge: Unleashing Resiliency, Protecting Groundwater Quality, April 24-25 in San Antonio, Texas. The conference provides a forum for sharing technical, regulatory, and institutional lessons from existing projects to develop successful recharge projects addressing water supply resilience and groundwater quality.
NGWA also highlighted MAR in a special issue of Groundwater® in 2022. Click here to learn more about MAR.
