Groundwater editor-in-chief participates on podcast detailing water resources

Leonard KonikowLeonard Konikow, Ph.D., the editor-in-chief of Groundwater® and pictured at the right, recently participated in a podcast discussing the importance of groundwater and surface water addressing climate change.

Konikow was speaking on the Water Resources Podcast which interviews water resource experts and discusses challenges relating to climate, droughts, floods, and more. The podcast is hosted by Bridget Scanlon, Ph.D., of the University of Texas at Austin.

The episode with Konikow is titled “Groundwater and Surface Water: A Single Resource,” and in it, Konikow and Scanlon talk about the strong linkages between groundwater and surface water underscoring the need to manage both conjunctively. Konikow adds that groundwater provides an opportunity to adapt to climate change as surface water resources are further depleted.

Both Konikow and Scanlon are recipients of NGWA’s M. King Hubbert Award, which recognizes a person who has made a major science or engineering contribution to the groundwater industry through research, technical papers, teaching, and practical applications. Konikow won the award in 1989 and Scanlon did so in 2016.
