In it, Alley and Scanlon discuss groundwater scarcity issues in Arizona and California, evolving approaches to groundwater governance, and proposed solutions through conjunctive management of surface water and groundwater, managed aquifer recharge, wastewater reuse, and desalination.

Leonard Konikow, Ph.D., the editor-in-chief of Groundwater®, also participated in a Water Resources Podcast this year. His episode is titled “Groundwater and Surface Water: A Single Resource,” and in it, he and Scanlon talk about the strong links between groundwater and surface water underscoring the need to manage both conjunctively.
