Mike Mehmert, the former director of sales and marketing-well products (North and South America) for Johnson Screens, passed away on October 12 in Evergreen, Colorado.
Mehmert, who was the Groundwater Foundation McEllhiney Lecturer in 2010, was honored with a 2019 Life Member Award from NGWA. His professional career of more than 40 years included consulting, contracting, and manufacturing — almost entirely in the groundwater industry.
The title of his McEllhiney Lecture was “You Drill a Hole, You Develop a Well.” In it, he discussed how vital well development was to well efficiency and how to achieve it.
He authored the portions on well casing in the groundwater industry’s popular Groundwater & Wells, third edition book. He was also the coauthor of two recent Water Well Journal® columns focusing on well casing. The columns, coauthored by former colleague Thom Hanna, PG, appear in the September 2023 and upcoming November 2023 issues.
Mehmert served on several committees for NGWA and American Water Works Association, as well as other international organizations, and was a member of NGWA’s Manufacturers Section Board of Directors in 2003-2004. Among the NGWA committees he served on was the task force that helped develop the NGWA-01-14 Water Well Construction Standard.
Services will be held on November 17 in Golden, Colorado.
