NGWA Past President Wayne Westberg, MGWC, passed away on December 2. He was 85.
Westberg, who served as NGWA president in 1989, founded M-W Drilling Inc. in 1968 in Anchorage, Alaska. Prior to that, Westberg served two tours in Vietnam as a sergeant in U.S. Army intelligence.
During his year in office, a new membership category was introduced where employees of member contractor companies could join for $30 per person in annual dues. He was also a supporter of the change of the name of the Association from National Water Well Association to National Ground Water Association. The change finally occurred in 1991.
A respected leader in the water well drilling industry, Westberg earned NGWA’s top certification — Master Groundwater Contractor (MGWC) — in 2005. Westberg served on NGWA committees, including the Northwest Regional Policy Subcommittee, and received NGWA’s Life Member Award in 2005.
Westberg’s son, Kris, also works for M-W Drilling and will continue the business. Click here to read the obituary.
