Minnesota library teaches children about groundwater

A library in Minnesota is teaching children about groundwater with the aid of the Groundwater Foundation’s Awesome Aquifer Kit.

The Browns Valley Public Library in Browns Valley, Minnesota, put on a program about groundwater as part of its Summer Library Program for children on June 18.  Librarian Arlene Reinart led the program with the aid of the kit. She discussed layers of soil, aquifers, how water flows through different layers, and contamination.library2

The Awesome Aquifer Kit is a fun and educational groundwater kit with everything needed to build an aquifer model. Instructions and activity supplies are included to walk people through learning all about groundwater.

The families whose children attended that day also received a copy of the book, Mr. Mouse Gets a New Water Well by NGWA’s Dave Schulenberg. The NGWA Press book explains what goes into a well installation in an entertaining way that children can understand.

Reinart’s presentation marked the second time she led a children’s session on groundwater at the library. During National Library Week in April, she used an Awesome Aquifer Kit to make a similar presentation to children.

Reinart is the wife of Joseph Reinart, the owner of Reinart Brothers Well Drilling in Wheaton, Minnesota.
