Water Well Journal® earned two 2024 APEX Awards of Excellence from Communications Concepts, honoring it with other top business publications today.
WWJ Editor Thad Plumley was recognized with an Award of Excellence for Regular Departments and Columns for the Editor’s Note “Keep Going,” which was a part of the July 2023 issue of WWJ.
WWJ Senior Editor Mike Price was recognized with an Award of Excellence for Feature Writing for the article “The Industrial Athlete,” which was published in the June 2023 issue of WWJ.
Plumley’s Editor’s Note focused on the passing of his father-in-law and related that to the importance of companies needing to continue to go forward even when they lose critical forward-thinking employees such as company founders, inventors, business owners, regulators, scientists, and engineers.
Price’s feature article described an industrial athlete as those doing heavy lifting, using repetitive motions, and other tasks that require stretching every day. Fitting that description, the water well industry worker is pushing the limits with a backlog of work that some say hasn’t been felt since the housing boom following World War II. The article detailed how not preparing for such activities can lead to accidents and provided an overview of an industrial athlete training program.
This was the 36th Annual Awards for Publication Excellence from Communications Concepts, a group that provides educational information for publishing and marketing professionals. There were more than 1100 entries in 100 categories this year.
This marks the 22nd consecutive year WWJ has earned an APEX award. It has won 39 total APEX Awards in its history, most in the groundwater industry.
“It’s always tremendous when WWJ is recognized by Communications Concepts,” Plumley says. “I’m really excited that ‘The Industrial Athlete’ article was honored as I think it touches on an important subject that gets overlooked in the groundwater industry. I hope the announcement of this award reminds people the importance of taking care of yourself on the job.”
