The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced on September 6 the availability of $7.5 billion of Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) funding.
The WIFIA program offers long-term loans at lower interest rates to help communities implement critical water infrastructure projects, which protect public health, deliver environmental benefits, including managed aquifer recharge (MAR) and other water supply projects.
Previously, WIFIA loans supported the Orange Country Water District’s Groundwater Replenishment System expansion, and the program can also lend funds to disadvantaged communities that are affected by underinvestment. Letters of interest are received on an ongoing basis.
