NGWA’s director of science and technology receives 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award from Groundwater Resources Association of California

NGWA Director of Science and Technology Bill Alley, Ph.D., received the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Groundwater Resources Association of California. The award is given in recognition of exemplary contributions to the California groundwater industry.Alley_Bill

Alley has been with NGWA for 12 years. Prior to NGWA, Alley served as chief, Office of Groundwater for the USGS for nearly two decades.

Coincidentally, Alley was recognized with two awards from NGWA during his time with the USGS: The John Hem Award in 2001 and the Life Member Award in 2012. The John Hem Award is presented in recognition of a significant, recent scientific or engineering contribution to the understanding of groundwater. The Life Member Award is given to retired members or members of retirement age who have contributed a special service in the furtherance of the groundwater industry.

Alley is a sought-after speaker in communicating groundwater science and policy to a wide range of audiences. Alley has published more than 100 scientific publications and received a number of other awards, including the Meritorious Presidential Rank Award and Shoemaker Award for Lifetime Achievement in Communication. He was elected as a Fellow of the Geological Society of America in 2009.

Alley has co-authored four books with his wife, Rosemarie, including the latest, The Water Recycling Revolution, in 2022.
