NGWA Government Affairs identifies 2025 initiatives

December 2, 2024

2025 is shaping up to be an exciting and busy year in Washington, D.C., with the new Congress and administration.

Here are just a few of the issues NGWA will be working on in 2025:

  • Support for the Healthy H2O Act to provide grants to private well owners to purchase point-of-entry (POE) water treatment equipment where contaminated water exists and include in a final version of a 2025 Farm Bill.
  • Fully fund the U.S. Department of Agriculture water systems grant program at $20 million for fiscal year 2026.
  • Fully fund the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Rural Water Technical Assistance program, which supports communities to identify water challenges, build capacity, and develop application materials to access water infrastructure funding.
  • Urge the EPA to fully implement the Water Supply Cost Savings Act, which provides small communities across the nation with critical information on the use of water wells and water well systems to deliver high quality, affordable drinking water.
  • Support additional well assessment and resources through federal legislation and at the EPA.

Directly affecting NGWA, the Association will be working on these initiatives and others in 2025:

  • Support reauthorization of the bipartisan infrastructure law including funding for water and low-income financing mechanisms for individual well owners.
  • Managed aquifer recharge (MAR) and stormwater recharge programs.
