Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Geological Survey releases new aquifer maps for groundwater resource development

February 11, 2025

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Geological Survey announces the release of new aquifer maps that will be important tools for land-use planning and groundwater resource development.

The new Aquifer Yield Map of Ohio visually depicts the rates at which groundwater may be produced (via pumping) by the aquifer(s) in a given area. The new Hydraulic Conductivity Map of Ohio — the first statewide compilation of such data for Ohio — provides information about how groundwater moves through the primary aquifer.

The maps will aid in assessing groundwater availability throughout the state and represent over two years of extensive research and development by hydrogeologists Alexis Lainer, Craig Nelson, Mark Potucek, and Maria Scaccia.
