The Occupational Safety and Health Administration launched its #MirrorCheck campaign to prevent backover incidents where a vehicle strikes someone or an object while reversing.
OSHA’s campaign is focused on encouraging employers and workers to implement proven safety practices to reduce these preventable accidents.
The #MirrorCheck initiative includes educational materials and practical tools that companies can tailor to their jobsites. OSHA wants organizations to engage their teams in safety conversations and reinforce essential habits around visibility and vehicle operation.
Key recommendations from the campaign include:
- Adjust mirrors properly to limit blind spots.
- Use trained spotters when backing equipment in high-risk areas.
- Install rearview cameras and proximity sensors to improve driver awareness.
- Develop internal traffic control plans to minimize the need for reversing.
- Conduct regular equipment inspections to ensure safety features like alarms and lights are working.
