July 29, 2025

Water Well Journal was recognized as one of the top business publications in America by earning a 2025 APEX Award of Excellence from Communications Concepts.

WWJ’s May 2024 issue was honored in the in the Magazines, Journals & Tabloids — Print (entire issue-over 32 pages plus cover) category. Factored in the judging were all aspects of a publication — the editorial content, graphic design, photography, and more. The May issue contained a cover story on optimizing pump systems, another feature article on the importance of knowing motor components when troubleshooting pumps, and four columns.

This was the 37th Annual Awards for Publication Excellence from Communications Concepts, a group that provides educational information for publishing and marketing professionals. There were more than 1000 entries in 100 categories this year.

This marks the 23rd consecutive year WWJ has earned an APEX award. It has won 40 total APEX Awards in its history, the most in the groundwater industry. However, the largest portion of its awards have been in a variety of writing categories, and this was the first time since 2019 the entire publication was recognized.

“This type of award, one recognizing the publication as a whole, means the most to me,” WWJ Editor Thad Plumley said.“It’s always gratifying when an article from WWJ is recognized, but when you’re awarded for everything — the writing, editing, photography, and design of an entire issue — it’s truly humbling. It’s always our goal to put out the best publication in the groundwater industry so this really means a lot.”
